If a stereophonic or other binaural signal is plugged into such a jack, one channel (usually the right) will be subtracted from the other (usually the left), leaving an unlistenable L − R (left minus right) signal instead of normal monophonic L + R. Reversing the polarity at any other point in a balanced audio system will also result in this effect at some point when it is later mixed-down with its other channel.
The film is almost the first demonstration of stereophonic sound to accompany moving pictures, an invention of Alan Blumlein.
London by Night was an LP album by Julie London, released by Liberty Records under catalog numbers LRP-3105 in monaural and LST-7105 in stereophonic form in 1958.
The film is prefaced by a monologue from David O. McKay, then-president of the LDS church, and includes interviews with three prominent scientists: Wernher von Braun, the father of rocket science; Harvey Fletcher, the father of stereophonic sound; and Henry Eyring, prominent theoretical chemist.
