The Shubert Organization

The company was reorganized in 1973, and as of 2008 owned or operated seventeen Broadway theaters in New York City, an off-Broadway theater — the Little Shubert — and the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia.


Shubert family

Introduced to the world of the theatre, the three brothers broke the monopoly on the theatre-management industry (represented by the Theatrical Syndicate under Abe Erlanger) and Mark Klaw in the foundation of rival agency the Shubert Organization.

Walnut Street Theatre

Edwin Booth and John Sleeper Clarke purchased the theatre in 1865, and then the theatre became part of The Shubert Organization in 1941.
