The winegrowing centre belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Gau-Algesheim, whose seat is in the like-named town.
After Worms (1 490 ha), Nierstein (783 ha), Alzey (769 ha), Westhofen (764 ha) and Alsheim (704 ha), Bechtheim is Rhenish Hesse’s sixth biggest winegrowing municipality, and one of the biggest in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Each year in July and August, the Beilsteiner Märchensommer (“Beilstein Fairy-Tale Summer”) is held, at which the marionette theatre from Cochem produces fairy tales at the winegrowing museum.
It is best known for its winegrowing and its yearly international high jump meeting (the Internationales Hochsprung-Meeting Eberstadt).
