In Clun the A488 crosses the ancient Clun Bridge and this, together with other sections of the route such as at Pontesbury, mean that larger vehicles regularly get stuck and cause significant damage.
Occasional quarry products are transported only a short distance along the route of the old railway to a public road (A488) leading to Pontesbury.

The road (the A488) continues up Porthill as Porthill Road, along the edge of the Shrewsbury School grounds, and ends at the former A5 road, the Shrewsbury bypass.
