Capture of Owerri

In July 1968 the Nigerian General and commander of the 3rd Marine Division Benjamin Adekunle began making plans for an invasion of Aba, Owerri, and Umuahia in a military operation he nicknamed Operation OAU, Adekunle boldly stated that he would be able to capture all three cities in 2 weeks.

Only two days before Owerri's capture the Biafran capital, Umuahia, fell to Gen. Mohammed Shuwa's 1st Division and the capital was moved to Aba.

Sultan Shah of Khwarezm

Sultan Shah and Terken Khatun managed to gain the support of Mu'ayyid al-Din Ai-Aba, a former Seljuk amir who had set himself up in Nishapur since the collapse of Seljuk power there.
