Achelous class vessels were based on the same hull as LST's (Landing Ship, Tank) which at the time were being produced in large numbers.


Achelousaurus

Eriphyle

Achelous, the god of that river, offered him his daughter Callirrhoe in marriage if Alcmaeon would retrieve the necklace and clothes that Eriphyle had worn when she persuaded Amphiaraus to take part in the battle.

The culvert under the dam itself terminates in an archway topped on the keystone with an ornate carving of the head of Achelous who stares out over the reservoir itself.
