Linda Nancy Andrew (August 17, 1947 – November 29, 1998) was the English-language translator of Japanese author Ryū Murakami's highly-acclaimed novel, Almost Transparent Blue, which had won the Akutagawa Prize in 1976.
The selection committee for the first five years consisted of science fiction and fantasy author Motoko Arai, anime director, screenwriter, and producer Ryōsuke Takahashi, video game designer Yūji Horii, and Akutagawa Prize-winning author Kazushige Abe.
In 1999 he shot The Pig's Retribution, a film set in the lavish natural scenery of Okinawa, inspired by the 1996 Akutagawa Prize-winning eponymous novel by Eiki Matayoshi.
In an interview with Bungei Shunjū upon winning the Akutagawa Prize, Risa Wataya and Hitomi Kanehara named Yamada's Afterschool Music as one of their major influences, explaining that her works were one of the greatest depictions of modern Japan.
