A map made by the General Land Office in 1869 calls the southwestern part of the Alaska Range the "Chigmit Mountains" and the northeastern part the "Beaver Mountains".

Fed by the Tangle Lakes of the Alaska Range, the river flows north to meet the larger river near Big Delta.
Isabel Pass is a gap in the eastern section of the Alaska Range which serves as a corridor for the Richardson Highway about 11 miles from Paxson.
It begins near Mount Kimball in the Alaska Range and flows generally south to meet the larger river near Slana.
