Candicidin is an antibiotic obtained from Streptomyces griseus and is active against some fungi of the Candida albicans.
It is often associated with mosses such as Brachythecium albicans, B. mutabulum, Campylopus introflexus, Ceratodon purpureus, Dicranum scoparium, Eurhynchium hians, E. praelongum, E. speciosum, Rhacomitrium canescens, Pohlia species or Polytrichum piliferum.
More recently, it has also been shown that not only bacteria but also pathogenic fungi such as Candida albicans induces neutrophils to form NETs that capture and kill C. albicans hyphal as well as yeast-form cells.
The maximum activity of T. pannonicus oil was observed against E. coli, S. aureus and both tested strains of C. albicans (MIC = 50 μl/ml, each).
