On January 23, 1958, Pearson was sent with Norm Zauchin to the Senators in the same trade that brought infielder Pete Runnels to the Red Sox.

However, Pearson got off to a rough start to the 1959 season and after hitting only .188 over the first 25 games with no home runs and only 2 RBI, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for center fielder Lenny Green.
