Alejandro García Padilla (born 1971), President of the Popular Democratic Party of Puerto Rico
Previous to becoming governor, García Padilla held various roles in the political landscape of Puerto Rico, first as Secretary of Consumer Affairs, then as member of the 24th Senate of Puerto Rico, and finally as President of the Popular Democratic Party.
On November 15, 2012, Governor-elect Alejandro García Padilla appointed Bernier to succeed Kenneth McClintock as Puerto Rico's 23rd Secretary of State, which also entails the role of lieutenant governor.

On August 1, 2013, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on Puerto Rico's status as a direct result of the 2012 plebiscite vote and invited Governor Alejandro García Padilla, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi, and pro-independence supporter Rubén Berríos to give testimony and answer questions from the committee.
