Named after King Amadeo I of Spain, the town is best known for their Pahimis Festival, which showcases the town's coffee industry.

He negotiated the surrender of the Italian forces commanded by Amadeo, 3rd Duke of Aosta at Amba Alagi.
Amadeo also designed the funerary monument to Medea Colleoni, which was intended for the church of Santa Maria della Basella in Urgnano.
Amadeo was involved in the disappearances during the Dirty War and was personally responsible for law 22068 which allowed the government to declare anyone disappeared for 90 days as legally dead.
The Authority is governed by a five-member board of directors, including three appointed by the Governor, one (attorney Luis Berríos-Amadeo) selected by President of the Senate of Puerto Rico, Thomas Rivera Schatz, and another, former San Juan mayor Dr. Hernán Padilla, selected by Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives Jennifer González.
Soon after his arrival in Venice he is purchased by the vampire Marius de Romanus (whose life story is told in Blood and Gold), who names him Amadeo.
