May 9 – Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya the mystic saint composer of the 15th century is the earliest known musician of South India to compose songs called "sankIrtanas" in praise of Lord Venkateswara, the deity of Seven Hills in Tirumala.

Annamacharya was born on Vaishakha Shuddha Pournami in the year Sarwadhari (May 9, 1408) in Tallapaka, a village in current day Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Dr. Shobha Raju is the first recipient of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams scholarship in 1976 to study and set a trend for the propagation of Annamacharya’s compositions, and was also chosen as the first exclusive artiste for the propagation of Annamacharya’s compositions in 1978.
He has composed nine albums in Telugu and Hindi languages (five albums, comprising 40 songs, written by Annamacharya, Saint composer).

He then took up a project of composing 40 Keerthanas (songs) written by Annamacharya and released five volumes of album named Annamacharya Sankeerthanalu sung by Smt.
Prof. D.Pasupathi also taught Annamacharya songs as well as classical kritis during two year scholarship course offered by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
The great devotee of Sri Rama and composer Annamacharya is associated with this legendary temple and lived in Tallapaka located nearby.
