On 6 July 2005, Shri Anjan Kumar Yadav, MP, and Hyderabad mayor, Teegala Krishna Reddy, flagged off the train from Secunderabad station when the service was extended to Tirupati via Kurnool, Dhone and Kadapa.
This division, and the resulting loss of revenue from the rich maidān region of Mysore, made Sadat-ulla Khan unhappy and, in collusion with the rulers of Kadapa, Kurnool, and Savanur and the Maratha Raja of Gutti, he decided to march against Dodda Krishnaraja.
The city is nicknamed "Gadapa" (which means 'Threshold') because it is the gateway from the west to the sacred hills of Tirumala, which is known for its connections to Venkateswara Swamy.
