3 unusual facts about Anton Geesink


Akram Pahalwan

In 1968 Akram wrestled in Suriname, South America where he was beaten unconscious by the Dutch 10th-dan Judoka, three-time undefeated World Judo Champion (1961, 1964 and 1965) Anton Geesink.

Some of his well known opponents include Haji Afzal (1963), George Gordienko (1967), Anton Geesink (1968) and Antonio Inoki (1976).

Bholu Brothers

He has suffered defeat at the hands of Kala Pahalwan " the Lion of Punjab" during the 50's, Big Bill Verna and the 3 times world Judo champion Anton Geesink in South America in 1968.


Jan Snijders

Together with his twin brother Peter Snijders, Anton Geesink, Hein Essink, Tonni Wagenaar, Coos Bontje, Jan van Ierland, Martin Poglajen, Joop Gouweleeuw, Wim Ruska, Ernst Eugster, Henk Numan, Peter Adelaar, Willy Wilhelm, Ben Spijkers, Anthony Wurth and Theo Meyer he belongs to the generation of Dutch top judoka which gained their successes in the 1960s and 1970s.

Peter Snijders

In 1965, he gained, as substitute of Anton Geesink, the bronze medal in open-class during the world championships in Rio de Janeiro.
