Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

The title of Arctic Monkeys' debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, is a direct quote from the book, and many of its songs were inspired by the protagonist, Arthur.


Andy Nicholson

An attendee of Stocksbridge High School, Nicholson was the only member of the Arctic Monkeys to not live in the High Green district, residing in nearby Hillsborough.

Beneath the Boardwalk

Beneath the Boardwalk refers to an unofficial collection of 17 demo recordings by Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys which was burned onto CDs to give away at the band's gigs for free, and which emerged on the Internet in 2004, promptly file-shared amongst fans.

The history and atmosphere of the building have attracted some of the world's largest bands, and recent international acts which have played the Enmore Theatre include Nas, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Paramore, Coldplay, The Offspring, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, Noel Gallagher, Kraftwerk, and Marilyn Manson.

He Said He Loved Me

The title track is co-written by Alex Turner of the band Arctic Monkeys: frontman Jon McClure are good friends, to the point of sharing a flat in Sheffield, and have written other songs, such as "Old Yellow Bricks", from the Arctic Monkey's second album Favourite Worst Nightmare and also "The Machine", which appears on Reverend and the Makers' album The State of Things.

Hull Arena

The arena has hosted concerts by many famous artists, including Arctic Monkeys, Faithless, Keane, Kings of Leon, Lostprophets, Morrissey, Oasis, Stereophonics, Biffy Clyro, Robbie Williams and is due to host Ed Sheeran in November 2012.

In her career, Jane has interviewed an array of musical stars including Kesha, Jessie J, David Guetta, The Chemical Brothers, Lily Allen, Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Strokes, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Marilyn Manson, Silverchair, Nick Cave, Arctic Monkeys, The Vines, The Presets, Queens of the Stone Age, Green Day, Good Charlotte, Lady Gaga, Delta Goodrem and The Ting Tings.

Molotov Jive

While recordings of second album "Songs For The Fallen Apart" were taking place with producer Tom Hakava, in Decibel Studio in Stockholm in 2008, Molotov Jive toured with many UK acts, including Arctic Monkeys, The Coral, Razorlight, Dirty Pretty Things and US punk band The Dirtbombs.

Scummy Man

Scummy Man is a short film, written and directed by Paul Fraser and produced by Mark Herbert and Diarmid Scrimshaw, based on the song "When the Sun Goes Down" by the Arctic Monkeys, and released on DVD on 10 April 2006 by Domino Records.

Sunshine Building

The Sunshine Theater has hosted a number of notable acts such as The Strokes, Snoop Dogg, Stone Temple Pilots, The Smashing Pumpkins, Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, Rancid, Coheed and Cambria, Social Distortion, Deftones, and Deadmau5 among others.

The Feddens

On the band's Facebook page they state that they were influenced by the Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club, Dog Is Dead, Two Door Cinema Club, Foals, The Cure, The Smiths and local Gloucestershire band Los Campesinos!

The Plug

Other notable shows in the early days included Editors, Four Tet, Explosions in the Sky and two successive sell-out Saturday night appearances by emerging Sheffield act Arctic Monkeys.

The Waterfront, Norwich

The Waterfront, Norwich has hosted bands including Pulp, Radiohead, Marina and the Diamonds, Nirvana, The Verve, Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, Amy Winehouse, Stereophonics, Paul Weller, Buzzcocks, Plan B, MGMT, Babyshambles, Travis, Moby, Ellie Goulding, Foals, Inspiral Carpets, The Horrors, The Cribs, The Undertones and Feeder.

You Know I'm No Good

Arctic Monkeys performed this song on Jo Whiley's Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1 in their second appearance there, along with their single at the time, "Brianstorm".
