Sir Tom Cowie OBE (9 September 1922 – 18 January 2012) was the honorary Life President of the Arriva Group, formerly known as Cowie Group plc.

Whale Hill

Arriva and Leven Valley both run services to the local towns, and also outlying villages such as Guisborough, and Saltburn.


Alder Valley

Oxford Bus ran them as Wycombe Bus, but sold them to Arriva in 2000 (after Oxford Bus had itself been sold to the Go-Ahead Group).

London Country South West: Drawlane Ltd, which became the British Bus group (sold to Cowie - now Arriva - in 1996), and now part of Arriva Guildford & West Surrey, although many routes passed to other companies, notably Metrobus and what is now Abellio Surrey which is part of Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

Lowland Scottish

Arriva, Cowie Group's successor, withdrew from Berwick ten years later, leaving the town routes to a local independent operator, Perryman's Buses.

Bus services into the estate were until 2006 provided exclusively by Arriva Buses Wales, but now have competition from Padarn Bus following a request by residents unhappy with Arriva's service.

In 2004 Arriva acquired Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH (PEG), which operates several lines in east Germany around Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg, North-Rhine Westphalia and Pomerania.

Since December 2007 the services from Munich have been operated as the Arriva-Länderbahn-Express (brand named ALEX) by Vogtlandbahn.

Snaith

The town also has a regular bus service, and is central to the 400 and 401 Arriva bus services, which usually commute hourly between Selby and Goole.

United Automobile Services

In 2002, Optare Delta 4019, still painted in United colours, ran free journeys on a variety of services operated by the company as a celebration of United's 90th anniversary, and also as the 'last United bus', being repainted into Arriva livery immediately after.

West Midlands bus route 19

The service was previously operated by NXWM and Arriva Midlands who operated it as route 319 during daytime hours, but in mid-2008 NXWM rerouted the service creating the 319A and in late 2008 Arriva Midlands withdrew from the route causing the slightly random number.
