Ashby Canal

The other branch led from Old Parks to Ticknall, with branches to the quarries between Calke Abbey and Staunton Harold.

A low embankment, still with some stone sleeper blocks crosses a field and a tunnel passes under the drive to Calke Abbey.


Hinckley and Bosworth

The Ashby Canal, the longest contour canal in England, passes through the Borough from Hinckley in the south of the Borough through Stoke Golding, Dadlington, Market Bosworth and Shackerstone before heading North to its current terminus at Snarestone.

Newport Pagnell Canal

The main cargo was coal, brought from Shipley on the Nutbrook Canal and Moira on the Ashby Canal for sale in Newport Pagnelll and the surrounding region.
