4 unusual facts about Aspergillus flavus

Caffeic acid

The studies are the first to show that oxidative stress that would otherwise trigger or enhance Aspergillus flavus aflatoxin production can be stymied by caffeic acid.

Cyclopiazonic acid

CPA was originally isolated from Penicillium cyclopium and subsequently from other P. cyclopium, Penicillium griseofulvum, Penicillium camembertii, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus versicolor.

Liver cancer

The aflatoxins are a group of chemicals produced by the fungi Aspergillus flavus (the name comes from A. flavus toxin) and A. parasiticus.

Rasburicase

The cDNA coding for rasburicase was cloned from a strain of Aspergillus flavus.
