BBC Alba

For logistical reasons, live broadcasts (including the news) are not subtitled, although certain events (e.g. the annual Hogmanay broadcast Bliadhna Mhath Ùr) have scripted elements that are subtitled, while interviews and ad-libbed lines are not.

The channel began broadcasting on satellite at 9:00pm on 19 September 2008 with a launch video featuring a new rendition of the Runrig song, Alba.

BBC Alba has four studios across Scotland, located in Stornoway, Glasgow, Inverness and Portree.

Calamateur

In the summer of 2008 Calamateur, Andrew Howie with band, filmed four songs and an interview for Rapal, a popular BBC Alba music television programme.

Sarah Cruickshank

She is a travel reporter and regularly does the outdoor weather conditions in the evening on BBC Radio Scotland and weather presenter on BBC Alba Gaelic news programme An Là.


2014 in Scottish television

10 January – BBC Alba debuts Bean a’ Mhinisteir (The Minister's Wife), a six-part reality television programme about the wives of Church of Scotland ministers.

She has hosted a series on BBC Alba, Cuide ri Cathy starting on Monday 22 September 2008, where she spends a day with some of Scotland's top celebrities including the First Minister Alex Salmond, TV presenter Aggie MacKenzie and Gail Porter, Pro Golfer Colin Montgomery, and writer Irvine Welsh.

BBC Alba is the only Gaelic language television service available in Scotland, broadcasting digital terrestrial platform Freeview, as well as Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat.
