This was the unofficial prelude to the summer festival Gandersheimer Domfestspiele, which has been presented yearly on the plaza in front of the abbey church since 1959.
In June 1002 he was sent as an imperial legate to the Synod of Pöhlde to mediate between the claims of Bernard, Bishop of Hildesheim, and Willigis, Archbishop of Mainz, concerning the control of the abbey of Gandersheim.

William took his brother Frederick prisoner on 10 December 1484 and brought him via Gandersheim and Hardegen to Hann. Münden.
On 1 January 1982, the line was closed completely between Harbarnsen and Lamspringe, on 31 May 1987 between Bodenburg and Harbarnsen, and on 29 May 1994 between Lamspringe and Bad Gandersheim and between Gronau and Elze.
