Balqa Governorate

The historical name Balqa was applied to the entire area of the eastern plateau of the Jordan valley as early as the 7th century when Heraclius’ brother Theodore fought an early campaign against the Arabs on the approaches to southern Syria.

Shaghur

:ash-Shaghur is also the name of a neighborhood (al-Shaghour) in Damascus and a town in the Balqa Governorate of Jordan.


Barjas al-Hadid

As well as being leader of the 30,000-member Balqa Governorate-based al-Hadid tribe, Barjas al-Hadid was formerly a member of the Royal Jordanian Air Force.

Mahmoud Kharabsheh

In 1999 he was a member of the same institution, and in November 2007 and January 2013 he was also elected, both times for the First District of Balqa Governorate.
