3 unusual facts about Beechcraft Baron


Concord Township, Champaign County, Ohio

Concord Township was the site of the crash of Trans World Airlines Flight 553, a Douglas DC-9-15 which fell to earth in a field following a mid-air collision with a Beechcraft Baron on March 9, 1967, triggering substantial changes in air traffic control procedures.

Connellan air disaster

Carried out by a disgruntled former employee of Connellan Airways (Connair), who flew a Beechcraft Baron into the Connair complex at the airport, the attack killed four other people and injured four more, two of them seriously.

Maitland Airport

On 27 November 1984, a Beechcraft Baron 58, registration VH-ETV, operating a charter flight to the airport, suffered a left landing gear failure and was substantially damaged.


Andreas Gruentzig

Grüntzig, an instrument-rated pilot, and his wife died in an airplane crash in their Beechcraft Baron in Forsyth, Georgia on October 27, 1985.
