Akademische Orchestervereinigung

Since 1991, the orchestra has performed the works of Beethoven, Bizet, Prokofiev, Lutosławski, Weber, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Bernstein, Wagner, Brahms, Henze and more.

Alice Ducasse

As a member of the company at the Théâtre Lyrique under Pasdeloup and Vizentini she sang various roles at that theatre, creating Mab in Bizet's La jolie fille de Perth, as well as Nérine in L'irato by Méhul (November 1868), Formosa in En Prison by Guiraud (March 1869), and Thérèse in Don Quichotte by Boulanger (May 1869).

Anna Veleva

Among her recent roles have been Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Musette in Puccini's La Boheme and Michaela in Bizet's Carmen produced by Columbia Artists Management.

Anne Sharp

At the Royal Opera House, Sharp sang in the chorus in the first post-war production, Purcell's The Fairy Queen, then in the 1947 productions of Bizet's Carmen, Massenet's Manon and Mozart's The Magic Flute.

Battle of the Carmens

The competition is so named because both Witt and Thomas independently elected to skate to the music of Bizet's opera Carmen in their respective long programs.

It opened on 10 January 1992 and is named after Place Bizet, under which it is located in the municipality of Anderlecht.

Debi Thomas

At the 1988 Winter Olympics held in Calgary, she and Katarina Witt engaged in a rivalry that the media dubbed the "Battle of the Carmens", as both women skated their long programs to the music of Bizet's opera Carmen.

Dyfed Wyn-Evans

Dyfed Wyn-Evans' operatic work includes appearances for Grange Park Opera, English Touring Opera, Broomhill Opera, and the Buxton Festival, and has performed the role of The Podestat in Bizet's Le Docteur Miracle, one of the most challenging of all baritone roles, at the Voray Festival in Besançon.

FC Déolois

They are based in the town of Déols and their home stadium is the Stade Municipal Jean Bizet.

Freilichtbühne Mülheim an der Ruhr

After the war, the theatre was eventually repaired and reopened on 30 June 1954 with a performance of Bizet's opera Carmen that drew 2,300 people: standing-room-only tickets were sold for 50 pfennings.

Howard Lew Lewis

In 2005, he played the part of Lillas Pastia, the innkeeper, in Bizet's Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall, London, and in 2007, played alongside Warwick Davis in the film Small Town Folk.

L'arlesiana

The opera is based on the play L'Arlésienne (1872) by Alphonse Daudet, which was itself inspired by a short story from his collection Letters From My Windmill (Lettres de mon moulin) and is best known for the incidental music composed by Georges Bizet.

La jolie fille de Perth

It was staged at the Wexford Festival in 1968, the Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne in 1998 and the Buxton Festival in 2006, and recorded by the BBC in Manchester for the Bizet centenary in 1975.

Lakmé

Like other French operas of the period, Lakmé captures the ambience of the Orient seen through Western eyes, which was periodically in vogue during the latter part of the nineteenth century and in line with other operatic works such as Bizet's The Pearl Fishers and Massenet's Le roi de Lahore.

Marie Ismaël-Garcin

In 1886, Ismaël-Garcin was given a contract at the Opéra de Marseille as "première chanteuse légère" and appeared there during the 1886/1887 seasons as Cathérine Glover in Bizet's La jolie fille de Perth and Ophélie in Thomas's Hamlet, amongst other roles.

Noam Zur

As part of the European Cultural Capital festivities of Essen, he led the new productions of Henze's Elegie für junge Liebende and a concert version of Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles.

Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa

In 1992, the Orchestra's CD "合奏協奏曲第1番(シュニトケ)、カルメン組曲(ビゼー)" (Concerto grosso No.1 by Schnittke and Carmen by Bizet) received Japan Record Academy Award.

PORTopera

Among singers who have performed with the company are New Englanders Mary Dunleavy and Kate Aldrich; the latter, who appeared in the title role of Bizet's Carmen in 2005, was the first Maine native to fill a principal role in one of the company's major productions.

Highlights of the orchestra have included a concert performance of the popular opera Carmen by Bizet, as well as the debut performance of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's 'Symphony in A minor', which had been lost for many years.

The Courts of Chaos

The allusions grow deep here however; the line in Lolita is itself an allusion to Bizet's Carmen as well as Mérimée's novella upon which it is based.

The Stoned Guest

Some character names, such as "Don Octave" and "Donna Ribalda" play on the Mozart opera, referring to Don Ottavio and Donna Elvira respectively, while the castanet-clicking "Carmen Ghia" plays on the title character of Bizet's opera (and puns on the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia).

In the same year he sang the role of Escamillo, the bullfighter, in Bizet's Carmen.

University of Seville

This beautiful building is also the setting for the renowned opera, Carmen, by Bizet.

Winton Dean

After an education at Harrow and Cambridge, he became notable as a writer on music, particularly after World War II, when he published several works concerning the compositions of Bizet.

Zandra Rhodes

Rhodes continued her association with the San Diego Opera in 2004 when she designed the set and costumes for Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles.
