Broadhaven Bay

In exposed areas of the bay regularly exposed to wave action the anemone Phellia gausapata is found in shallow waters A cave in deeper water supports colonies of the rare anemone Parazoanthus anguicomus and soft coral Alcyonium glomeratum.

Broadhaven Bay has in recent years (approx 2002–2010 and ongoing) been the site of the Corrib gas controversy where Royal Dutch Shell sent the Solitaire, reputedly the largest pipelaying ship in the world, into the bay to lay an offshore section of proposed extremely high pressure gas.

Mayo North

There are fourteen large sculptures along the North Mayo and Broadhaven Bay coastlines.


Ballycastle, County Mayo

To the west of the town are the Stags of Broadhaven, to the east lies Killala Bay while to the south are the towns of Crossmolina and Ballina.

Belmullet

The area must have been very wet and marshy at the time because during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, an Admiral chased pirates into Broadhaven Bay, hauled his boats across the isthmus and caught up with them near the Iniskea Islands.

Carrowmore Lake

Carrowmore Lake is situated in the parishes of Kiltane and Kilcommon Erris, County Mayo between the villages of Bangor Erris and Barnatra at the southern end of Broadhaven Bay.

Glenamoy

The Owenmore river flows via Carrowmore Lake into Blacksod Bay where a tributary of it known as the Munhin River connects the area with the great Ulster Cycle saga of Táin Bó Flidhais, the Glenamoy River into Sruwaddacon estuary and Broadhaven Bay.
