The minivan platform has evolved through five generations, from the original S platform forming the basis of the Dodge Caravan, Plymouth Voyager (discontinued) and Chrysler Town & Country — to the current RT and RM platforms, which underpin the current Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler Grand Voyager, Ram C/V, and Volkswagen Routan.
The Lancia version is offered with engines compliant with Euro V emission standards.

These same features make theSchnellaster a precursor of the modern minivan, a body configuration subsequently popularized in notable examples such as the Renault Espace, or the Chrysler Voyager/Dodge Caravan and, mechanically, of the BMC Mini plus most modern cars.
The series production of Chrysler Voyager and the Chrysler Grand Voyager was initiated at the opening ceremony of Lee Iacocca on 29 April 1992.
