Geoff Lloyd (born 20 April 1973 in Withington, Manchester) is a British radio presenter best known for his radio shows on Virgin Radio and Absolute Radio, including the Pete And Geoff Breakfast Show (January 2003 to December 2005, alongside Pete Mitchell), The Geoff Show (January 2006 to September 2008, with his co-host Annabel Port) and Geoff Lloyd's Hometime Show (September 2008 to present, again with Port).
The Mill Inn located Withington is locally credited with creating the "chicken in a basket" dish.
Deen grew up in the Moss Side and Withington areas of Manchester and was a pupil at Burnage High School before joining the Grenadier Guards, serving in Northern Ireland and Bosnia.
Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts to Nathan Noyes Withington (1828–1914) and Elizabeth (Little) Withington (1828–1912), he was involved with research and editing of publications on certain aspects of the American Revolutionary War but is best known was his extensive genealogical research that included the publication of immigrant ship's passenger lists and the like.
Withington was awarded the Legion of Merit by the U.S. Navy in 1945, the Silver Star, the French croix de guerre, the British Mons Star, World War I victory ribbon, the Army of Occupation of Germany ribbon, the American Defense ribbon and the Pacific Asiatic ribbon with star.
From 1915-1924 he was an amateur radio experimenter and commercial operator, then worked at General Electric 1925-1926, Sparks Withington 1926-1935, and the RCA License Laboratory, starting in 1935.
Withington delivered a report to the Secretary on May 15, 1965, recommending a phased array S-Band radar to search and track air targets, six slaved X-band radars for illumination and fire control, a digital control system compatible with the Naval Tactical Data System, a standard missile that could be directed in flight, and a dual-rail launcher.
To the north of the Withington Wilderness and San Mateo Mountains is the world-renowned Very Large Array radio telescope observatory.
On the retirement of the last vicar of Withington the parish was joined to the parish of Upton Magna, then to Uffington and is now part of a team ministry.
