During his career, he has edited more than 60 feature films and has worked with noted French film directors such as Claude Berri and Jean Becker but is best known for his collaboration with Krzysztof Kieślowski which began with The Double Life of Véronique, and continued on Three Colors: Blue and Three Colors: Red.
He was elected General Secretary in 1981 and has been consistently re-elected since then, working closely with past Presidents, Jean Rouch, Jean-Charles Tacchella, and Claude Berri and with the current President Costa-Gavras.
In her career she has worked with a number of international directors, including Michel Gondry, Bertrand Blier, Yves Boisset, Claude Berri, Jacques Deray, Michel Deville, Diane Kurys, Radu Mihăileanu, Patrice Leconte, Joseph Losey, and Louis Malle.
He subsequently provided soundtracks for films by Claude Berri among others.
The countryside surrounding Vaugines is wild and typical of Provence, and was chosen by film director Claude Berri for the filming of parts of his adaptions of Marcel Pagnol's novels Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources.

His father Claude Berri was Jewish, and his mother Anne-Marie Rassam, who was born in Lebanon, was Lebanese Christian.
