Chamber Symphony No. 1 is one of the most recorded of Schoenberg's works and has received attention from conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Chailly, Claudio Abbado, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Zubin Mehta, and chamber groups such as the Hyperion Ensemble, Hagen Quartett and Orpheus.
Amongst the conductors with whom she has sung are Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, Edward Downes, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Mark Elder, Andrew Davies, Jacques Delacote, Nicola Luisotti and Vasily Petrenko.
He began his career as a soloist under the direction of conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Eliahu Inbal, Peter Maag and Giuseppe Sinopoli, performing in prestigious concert halls.
His many conducting students included Leonid Nikolaev, Paul Angerer, Claudio Abbado, Iván Fischer, Jesús López-Cobos, Zubin Mehta, Gustav Meier, Miltiades Caridis, Alexander Alexeev, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Brian Jackson, Alfred Prinz, Bryan Fairfax and Albert Rosen.
In May 2000 he was chosen from numerous applicants to become Claudio Abbado’s assistant with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and already in December 2000 he led all rehearsals for the production of Richard Wagner's Tristan in Tokyo, due to Abbado’s ailing health.
Madoyan performed with a number of the world's best symphony orchestras and conductors such as Richard Hickox, Frans Brüggen, Claudio Abbado, Arnold Katz, Dmitri Kitayenko, Valery Gergiev, Leopold Hager, Matthias Bamert, Richard Dufallo and Nikolai Alekseyev.
The orchestra continued its involvement with the festival through the subsequent tenures of Claudio Abbado, who became artistic director in 1994, and of Simon Rattle, who took up the directorship in 2003.
His vocal talent was acknowledged by some of the world's leading conductors including Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado and Zubin Mehta.
Since then he has conducted the orchestra on many occasions in Berlin and Salzburg (Falstaff, Parsifal) and took the dress rehearsal for Claudio Abbado’s last concert with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra with Gustav Mahler's symphony no. 7 in Vienna in May 2002.
The MCO has stable residencies in Ferrara (Ferrara Musica, honorary president: Claudio Abbado), Aix-en-Provence (Festival international d'art lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence), Toblach (Gustav Mahler Musikwochen), Lucerne (Lucerne Festival), Salzburg (Mozartwochen) and Landshut.
