4 unusual facts about Corby Castle

Corby Castle

It was sold in 1611 to Lord William Howard, the third son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk, who added a 2 storied L-shaped house onto the peel tower.

Corby Bridge, a Grade I listed railway viaduct of 1834, is nearby.

Edward Haughey, Baron Ballyedmond

He owns Ballyedmond Castle in Rostrevor, Corby Castle in Cumbria, and No. 9, Belgrave Square, London (a 6-storey townhouse purchased in 2006 for about £12m, restored during the following three years).

John George Howard

Later in life he claimed direct descent from Thomas Howard, the 4th Duke of Norfolk, through a 17th-century Howard who had adopted the name Corby from the ancestral estate Corby Castle, because of a family quarrel.
