The name Crowther, after a local merchant, was objected to by the Postmaster-General's Department, as there was a town named Crowther between Cowra and Young in New South Wales.
Even in the very last years of steam power, they could still be found well spread over the state in such places as Temora, Griffith, Cowra, Dubbo and Narrabri West.
The members of this class spent most of their days attached to depots at Enfield, Goulburn, Harden, Junee and Cowra operating on the Illawarra and Main South lines.
It extends from Cowra in the north to Wee Jasper in the south and parts of the Southern Highlands from Picton and Wilton in the east to Young and Cootamundra in the west.
In 1998, Dalton left Sydney and moved to a farm on the outskirts of the village of Morongla (near Cowra in central west New South Wales) with his girlfriend, writer Lucy Lehmann.
These were designed to split en route allowing carriages to detach for Cowra, Tumut, Lake Cargelligo and Hillston on selected days.
