There is an operating coal mine just across the B.C. border in Sparwood which continues to provide significant employment for the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.

Montana Highway 40

Highway 40 forms the central part of the most-direct link between the two cities, allowing travel from the Hi-Line communities and Glacier National Park to the communities of the Columbia Valley in British Columbia without needing to detour south via Kalispell, Montana or north via the Crowsnest Pass between British Columbia and Alberta.


Frank William Green

Upon his graduation from McGill in 1898, Green worked as a physician on the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway Crowsnest Pass line, in the Kootenay Valley, working on horseback.
