2 unusual facts about Darnall's Chance


Daniel Carroll

(Several acres are now associated with the house museum known as Darnall's Chance, listed on the National Register of Historic Places).

Darnall's Chance

Two Carroll sons were prominent members of colonial and early United States society: Daniel Carroll became a politician in the Continental Congress and Maryland Senate, and member of the Constitutional Convention; and John Carroll became the first Roman Catholic bishop in the United States, and founder of Georgetown University.


Chinaman's chance

The phrase is used in Fritz Lang's You Only Live Once and also in Rob Cohen's Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, when the character of Bruce Lee is on his way to America in a ship.

Darleen Ortega

Ortega then married, becoming Darleen Darnall, and enrolled at the University of Michigan Law School.

Henry Darnall

Darnall married Eleanor Hatton Brooke (1642–1725), the widow of Thomas Brooke, Sr..

John Julius Angerstein

In 1771 Angerstein married Anna Crockett (widow of Charles Crockett and daughter of Henry Muilman (1700–1772) a South Sea Company director, banker, Danish consul in London and Russia Company consul, and Anne née Darnall) at St Peter-le-Poer, Old Broad Street.

Sheffield Parkway

On this route it passes the districts of Wybourn, Darnall, Handsworth, and the village of Catcliffe, at which a slip road connects to the now defunct Sheffield City Airport, Sheffield Business Park and the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP).

West Tinsley railway station

This was to have been served by trains on a diverted Sheffield to Lincoln service which would also call at the planned Swallownest railway station with the stations at Darnall and Woodhouse being closed.
