In December 2010, the Liverpool Echo reported that eighteen-year-old Shaffer would be joining the cast of Hollyoaks as Ruby, the sister of Duncan Button (Dean Aspen).
While at school Aspen performed in many productions, and studied Drama at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College, as well as performing in productions with the Salford Quays company.
