The grounds showcase thousands of orchids, including two-dozen varieties of Cattleya quadricolor and beds of Dendrobium and Spathoglottis orchids, plus a cypress swamp, tropical flowering trees, palms and vines.
The main plant host for O. sacchari is sugar cane, but it also been observed on other grasses, including Bambusa arundinacea, Setaria italica, Sorghum arundinaceum, Sorghum halepense and Sorghum vulgare, and an orchid of the genus Dendrobium.

The conservatory’s collection includes representatives of the largest genera – Bulbophyllum, Epidendrum, and Dendrobium – as well as commonly cultivated genera such as Cattleya and Phalaenopsis.

Dockrillia wassellii or the Furrowed Pencil Orchid (previously, Dendrobium wassellii), is found only in the Iron Range and McIlwraith Range on Cape York Peninsula, Australia, at 100-400 metres altitude.
