In 1988 an Australian television movie, The First Kangaroos actor Dennis Waterman's villainous depiction of Goldthorpe drew formal complaints from his granddaughter.
His composition "I Could Be So Good For You" was recorded by Dennis Waterman for the theme tune of the ITV series Minder and became a Top 10 hit single in the United Kingdom during 1980.
The part has also been played by James Bolam, Dennis Waterman, Robert Powell, and most recently Simon Hill in the Frayed Knot Production of the play.
Prior to this, she had played Dennis Waterman's screen wife, Alison Carter, in early episodes of The Sweeney and WPC Howarth in Z-Cars (1972–75), which stood her in good stead for her role as Inspector Darblay.
It featured a number of child stars who went on to greater fame including Hywel Bennett and Dennis Waterman.
