Renovations and upgrades have continued ever since, with many future ones like the Viaduct from Los Alcarrizos to the National District being in the construction stage.

From its southern terminus in the Distrito Nacional (Santo Domingo) to its northern terminus in Monte Cristi on the Dominican-Haitian Border, the highway changes names and quality slightly deteriorates farther from Santo Domingo.

This project combined with the current construction of Line 2 of Santo Domingo Metro would be of great help for the crosstown commuters that live in Los Alcarrizos and Santo Domingo Oeste and need to travel east into the Distrito Nacional or Santo Domingo Este.

The Expreso John F Kennedy is an urban express corridor parallel to the Expreso 27 de Febrero crossing all of Downtown Santo Domingo and almost the whole Distrito Nacional.

As of 2011, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (Ministro de Obras Publicas y Comunicaciones) is involved in the construction of a series of elevated viaducts along DR-1 from Los Alcarrizos to the Wiston Churchill avenue in Distrito Nacional in important intersections along the path.

It then exits central Santo Domingo and continues Northward across the Distrito Nacional until reaching the Ozama River.

DR-3

Expreso de Las Américas serves as the main urban corridor of Santo Domingo Este and serves as a rapid connection to Downtown and the Distrito Nacional where most of the jobs of the city are located.

DR-3 is called by different names from its western terminus in Plaza de la Bandera, Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional to San Rafael del Yuma in the eastern corner of the country.

As it reaches the border of the Distrito Nacional it crosses the Ozama River via the Juan Pablo Duarte and Prof. Juan Bosch bridges.

The Highway starts 200 meters Northwest of Plaza De La Bandera in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional.

Santo Domingo Greenbelt

The Santo Domingo greenbelt (Spanish: Cinturon Verde de Santo Domingo) is a greenbelt project that surrounds the outer boundaries of the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo de Guzman (Distrito Nacional).
