Internationally she was most successful in women's doubles, usually partnered with Joke van Beusekom, winning at the (first) European Youth Championships in 1969, the Denmark Open in 1972 and 1975, the Irish International in 1975, and the Dutch Open in 1977.
In 2008, competing in the under-55 kg class she won gold medals at the Dutch Open in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, the German Open in Hamburg, Germany, and the Croatia Open in Zagreb, Croatia.
At the 2005 Dutch Open Championship, Burton set the American record for the Rubik's Clock for single solve (24.12 seconds) and mean (32.68 seconds).
