Bedwellty

On 19 June 1874, Ebbw Vale, Rhymney and Tredegar local boards of health and local government districts were formed, each including parts of the civil parish.

Cefn Manmoel

Cefn Manmoel is the name given to the broad ridge of high ground between the Sirhowy Valley and Ebbw Vale in the Valleys region of South Wales.

Ebbw Vale, Queensland

Ebbw Vale is Welsh for Head of the Valley which refers to the location of Ebbw Vale in Wales.

South Wales Coalfield

The availability of coal and nearby limestone (as a flux) gave rise to a substantial local iron and steel industry which was perpetuated in the 20th century by the location of modern steelworks at Ebbw Vale, Newport and Cardiff and Port Talbot.


A465 road

It starts again at Hereford, crosses the Wales-England border over the River Monnow, continues south to Abergavenny and Brynmawr, then continues west along the heads of the valleys, past Ebbw Vale, Tredegar, Rhymney, Merthyr Tydfil, Hirwaun and Glynneath.

Abersychan

The principal ironworks were built by the British Iron Company in 1825; the works passed to the New British Iron Company in 1843 and to the Ebbw Vale Company in 1852, before closing in 1889.

The locations for the films were primarily in and around the Welsh mining communities of Abertillery and Cwmtillery in Ebbw Fach, the Eastern and smaller of the two valleys in Ebbw Vale.

Born in Manmoel on 25 November 1950, Robert Clive Burgess joined Ebbw Vale from Croesyceiliog RFC and was a superb servant to the Eugene Cross Park club, for whom he made more than 200 appearances, before finishing his career in Italy with Brescia.

Ebbw Vale Garden Festival

Subsequent festivals were held in Stoke-on-Trent (1986) and Glasgow (1988) and Gateshead (1990) and Ebbw Vale Garden Festival (1992) which eventually won the competition.

Ebbw Vale supplied two of their players to the Wales team, Chick Jenkins and Oliver Burgham, both men becoming the club's first international caps.

Oliver Burgham won caps for Wales while at Ebbw Vale in 1908 against New Zealand, and England, and won a cap for Great Britain while at Halifax in 1911 against Australia

In the mid-nineteenth century, the proprietors of the Ebbw Vale Iron Works acquired an interest in iron ore deposits in the Brendon Hills on the north side of Exmoor.
