To help with the cases, Detective Tom Harris turns to his best friend, Edward Kemper, a genius, but borderline autistic, house painter who lives with his abusive mother, and who had previously helped Harris capture another criminal named John Linley Frazier.
Five of the six tracks are based on and titled after infamous serial killers, Edmund Kemper, Peter Sutcliffe, Herbert Mullin, and John Wayne Gacy (this last one, portrayed on the cover).
The episode's central antagonist is based on a composite of several real life murders, including Edmund Kemper and Jeffrey Dahmer.
