He was the father of Edwin C. Denby, a U.S. Representative from Michigan, and later Secretary of the Navy, and Charles Denby, Jr., a diplomat.
The name of the league was said to have been the suggestion of Colorado senator Edwin C. Johnson.
He is currently working on royal sarcophagi in the Valley of the Kings.
