On 17 April, he debuted for the club in the copper derby against Cobreloa, in where received one goal with Patricio Schwob in the 29th minute, despite of the score, he played a good game.

After season as the third-choice goalkeeper of the club, Vargas was loaned to Iberia Los Ángeles of the Chilean Tercera División in June 2008, returning in January of the next year and remaining one semester, in where he won the 2009 Clausura Tournament with the coach Sergio Markarián, being Emanuel's first professional honour.
