Eric is still being featured in EA Sports' yearly NHL hockey game; he was featured in NHL 10 despite being retired for a number of years.
He was also forced to give up US$36,585.36 of his salary as he was already suspended previously for kicking Eric Cairns of the New York Islanders during a game earlier in the season.
In his next game against the Montreal Canadiens, having replaced the suspended Eric Cairns, he suffered a nightmare start, scoring in his own net, but made amends by scoring his first NHL goal in the third period against the team he always cheered against as a child and Boston Bruins fan.

The offseason saw the hiring of former American Hockey League player Dennis Maxwell as Coach, who assembled a much stronger team, including perennial British all-star Steve Moria, and, with the 2004–05 NHL lockout, defenceman Eric Cairns and centre Scott Nichol from the National Hockey League.
