From 1941–1966, many people in the eastern end of the peninsula were employed at Ernest Harmon AFB in nearby Stephenville.

Scouting and Guiding in Newfoundland and Labrador

American Scouting at Ernest Harmon Air Force Base Troop 6 under the guidance of Ed Zeidler and Sgt. Henry Erben (the survival trainer for the first seven astronauts) was the furthest east BSA troop in North America.

Wayne Ray

Ray grew up on the Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador from 1953 to 1965, and was in Boy Scout Troop 6 there.
