Former Northern Ireland international Martin O'Neill, in his first managerial role, led Wycombe Wanderers to two wins, and Geoff Chapple managed Kingstonian to victory twice and Woking three times, all within the space of seven years.


Eamonn Collins

Although Ball left Colchester in October 1989, Collins remained with the Layer Road club for three years, during which they were relegated to the Conference in 1990, before taking the Conference title, as well as winning the FA Trophy in 1992.

Dean Barrick was popular amongst the club's fans, and was voted BBC Radio Nottingham Sports Personality of the year in 2005 having led the club to the FA Trophy final.

Matty Young

He made his debut for the Tigers after coming off the bench to replace Chris Bettney in a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Evo-Stik League Division One South side Market Drayton Town in the FA Trophy.

Finally, the club were able to capture the championship in 1972–73, that season was very good all round for the club as they also reached the Third Round of the FA Trophy, going out to eventual winners Scarborough, 3–1 at home.

Steve Guppy

At Wycombe, he first teamed up with newly appointed Martin O'Neill and helped take them into the Football League as Conference champions in 1992–93 as well as completing the non-league double by winning the FA Trophy.

Winsford United F.C.

During this period, in the late 1970s, the club also reached the quarter finals of the FA Trophy and featured future Welsh international goalkeeper Neville Southall.
