On 23 December 2008, he was arrested by police and charged for drink driving in Rothwell, Leeds, while driving home with four friends.

Delph had a successful start to the 2012–2013 Premier League season, leading Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert to call for his inclusion in the England squad.

During the 2012–13 Premier League season, Delph established himself as a regular in Paul Lambert's side, finishing the season with 24 appearances.
