Fernando Wood

His Spanish forename was chosen by his mother, who found it in an English gothic novel written by George Walker, The Three Spaniards (London, 1800).

This was followed by a motion by Henry L. Dawes to censure Wood, which passed by a vote of 114-39.

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln portrays Wood, played by Lee Pace, as a leading opponent of the President and of the Thirteenth Amendment.

John F. Dickson

He remained in command of the precinct until Captain Joseph Dowling, who had formerly sided with Mayor Fernando Wood and the Municipal police force during the Police Riot of 1857, replaced Dickson upon joining the Metropolitan police in 1859.
