In the next year the boy and his preceptor arrived to Lorient in France.

In 1735 a Topass army seriously threatened Kupang, and in 1746-49 the Topasses intervened on the Island of Roti, a Dutch dependency close to Timor.

Especially, the ruler of the prestigious Sonbai princedom joined the Dutch with the bulk of his followers.


Oecusse District

Under their leader Gaspar da Costa they attacked the Dutch colonial post at Kupang in 1749 but were smashingly defeated, and subsequently moved their residence to Pante Macassar (Oecusse) in 1759 due to Dutch military pressure.
