In 2003, North Carolina's Golden LEAF Foundation provided almost $39 million to build BTEC, as part of a larger grant to establish a statewide public-private partnership now called NCBioImpact.
#The foundation recently approved spending $100 million for a new manufacturing plant at North Carolina's Global TransPark (GTP) to be built by Spirit AeroSystems that will eventually employ more than 1,000 people.

The NCBioImpact partnership now includes BTEC, BRITE (Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise) at North Carolina Central University, North Carolina BioNetwork of the North Carolina Community College System, NCBIO (North Carolina Biosciences Organization), the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and the Golden LEAF Foundation.
