Edward Hatch

He succeeded General Gordon Granger as commander of the Department of Arizona (which included New Mexico Territory) in 1876, negotiated a treaty with the Ute Indians in 1880, and became widely known as an Indian fighter.

Gordon Granger

After Chattanooga, Granger took part in lifting the siege at Knoxville, Tennessee.

In 1876, Granger died in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he was serving in command of the District of New Mexico.

Walter C. Whitaker

He fought at the Union defense at the Battle of Chickamauga that fall as part of Brig. Gen. Gordon Granger's Reserve Corps, and was again wounded, hit in his abdomen on September 20.
